Words From Childhood 3.10

Today’s phrase: nochi nochi!

This isn’t a Japanese phrase, and it may not have been said when I was a child, although I have heard it said to children. Nochi nochi is my mother’s corruption of “naughty naughty!”

She is capable of pronouncing the words correctly, but I think she was trying to be cute, especially when she said it to my niece. My niece, when she was a baby, was definitely an impish sort, sometimes doing things she knew she shouldn’t, and grinning and looking at my mom to see if my mom noticed. She did.

My mom’s birthday is this month– I dedicate this post to her.

  1. Happy birthmonth, Mom!
